Montessori Children's House of Miami Lakes
For 50 years, Montessori Children's House has served South Florida. Our goal has always been to offer an affordable Montessori education, a loving and nurturing classroom environment, and to ensure that all children who graduate from our Kindergarten program can read. We also strive to ensure that graduates from our Elementary program have the skills and education needed to prepare them for middle-school, and the rest of their lives.
A message from Paul and Charlene Thibodeau- The Owners and Directors of Montessori Children's House of Miami Lakes:
As a full member of the American Montessori Society, Montessori Children's House of Miami Lakes adheres strictly to the AMS Code of Ethics. We pledge to conduct ourselves professionally and personally, in ways that will reflect our respect for the children we serve and their families- dealing with integrity, honesty and love.
We thank our Heavenly Father for the joyful assignment of teaching and guiding the children that attend our programs. The instinctive desire and ability within each child to attain and retain educational, social, and spiritual development is truly a wondrous thing, and we are dedicated to helping foster such growth and desires.
God Bless You All

In 1969, Charlene was a public school teacher. She had two daughters- ages nine, and one. It was at that time that she discovered that her eldest daughter could not read. Charlene was devastated, and was determined that the same would not happen to her younger daughter.
Charlene discovered the Montessori method from a television program, and instantly knew that it was the kind of school her youngest daughter needed to be in. When she went looking for schools, she could not afford any of them. One day, she saw in a newspaper that Dr.Elizabeth Caspari (who worked with Dr. Maria Montessori in India for four years during World War II) was coming to South Florida to train teachers in the Montessori method. Charlene took the plunge, and began the training while she was pregnant with her son.
Her plan was simply to teach her son, youngest daughter, and a few other children in her small townhouse in Hialeah until her son went to first grade. But God had a different plan: While Charlene was taking the Montessori training, she met another woman with similar goals, and they decided to start a school together.
In July 1971, they opened Montessori Children's House in a small store front in Hialeah . God blessed them with students, and they were eventually able to move into a warehouse in Miami Lakes, and then into a different warehouse, which was larger. Around this time, Senator Bob Graham's daughter, niece, and nephew attended Montessori Children's House. In 1984, the permanent home of Montessori Children's House was built on 6381 Miami Lakeway North, Miami Lakes.
